Jonathan Low centers his conference keynote speaking and leadership coaching work with organizations and senior executives to measurably improve their leadership effectiveness, growth development, and business performance, especially in the areas of Sales Performance, Service Quality, Leadership Communication, and Team Development. He believes that "Increased self-awareness accelerates professional relations and business success".

A Global Speaking Fellow, Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), Master Certified Coach (ICF MCC), and one of Asia's leading Sales, Service & Leadership Optimisers, and International Author, Jonathan has successfully delivered his high-energy, engaging, and transformational keynotes to audiences globally.

Jonathan has more than 25 years of in-depth executive experience in leadership, sales management, customer experience, and business resilience, working with executives and their leadership teams throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America.

In today’s episode, Jonathon Low shared:

  • It is in his DNA to ask, “How can I be of service to others?” since his background was in hospitality.
  • A question that led Jonathan into speaking and consulting was:  “Is there more I can do to better serve?”
  • Jonathan’s Life-Changing Question: “What can I do to better serve it forward?”
This question is inspired by the movie ‘pay it forward’.
  • How you can create a positive ripple effect and raise your own energetic vibration eg, Smile at someone else, you are giving them a gift.  If you get a smile back it is a bonus.
  • A great example of how he served from the heart, and many years later, it opened the door to speaking and consulting work.
  • How to optimize sales by winning clients' loyalty using the ‘service’ acronym:
  • Service:
    • Self-mastery - as a leader, you must lead yourself first before you can impact others
    • Experience - what kind of experiences are you creating for clients so they want to come back
    • Relationship - in what ways are you building the relationship?
    • Value - ‘serve it forward’ to add value first (people don’t care how much you know, but how much you care)
    • Innovation - how can you add to the experience.. consider before, during, and after the engagement.
    • Culture - How can you rally the team together (take ownership and accountability)
    • Empowerment - how can you empower others to operate when you're not there?
  • Habits that have led Jonathan to success:
    • Learning daily (30-60 mins every morning on a book summary)
    • Gratitude journal, being thankful for every day
    • Family - they are a great source of energy and help keep perspective
    • Contribute especially to “Together We Can Change The World,” - an organization that helps empower children and women in different parts of the world.

Leoni McKeon is a world expert in the interpretation and usage of the 36 Strategies (derived from Sun Tzu, 'The Art of War'). Like many people, when Leonie first read ‘The Art of War’, she questioned the relevance this had in the contemporary business world. While living in the Greater China Region, among the experts in negotiation, she realized that these strategies were the keys to strategic negotiation. Living away from Australia provided her with the awareness that most Western people have little understanding of how to negotiate strategically. Consequently, she has systematically unpicked each ancient strategy and identified modern-day examples to explain how the strategies can be used in the contemporary business world. Leonie shares the rules of ancient Chinese wisdom, which is the knowledge used by the best and most confident negotiators in the world. The 36 Strategies provide a comprehensive framework to enable high-level strategic thinking for negotiating in any business environment.

Leonie shares in this episode:

  • Traveled through Israel, Turkey, and Egypt for a year and a half until the money ran out when she was in Hong Kong; where a chance encounter sent her to Taiwan where they could get work teaching English.
  • Whilst staying in Taipei, there was no English spoken, so Leonie had to learn Mandarin and she stayed there for 4 years, practicing speaking and writing Mandarin during the day and teaching English at the night.
  • After a while, Leonie moved to a more remote region where there was no English at all, which really helped Leonie’s Mandarin skills grow massively, so she was able to start importing clothes from Katmandu and sell them at night markets.
  • Leonie started to travel over the whole country and started to understand that there were Mandarin accents, just like in Western cultures.
  • How she earned a degree in Anthropology and Mandarin and started her first business to help people deal with China, and this business ran for 15 years and sold it to her senior team.
  • How the 36 strategies from ‘The Art Of War’ changed her life, and how it is so fundamental to the Chinese culture.
  • Leonie spent time with Chinese experts to really codify the 36 strategies for a modern-day business, and that led to workshops and keynote speaking.
  • Leonie helps people understand these strategies through “Idioms” and has written a series of 6 books on the topic.  “The Dao Of Negotiation Series”; a way of negotiating that increases collaboration and win/win
  • How she has been able to have the books published internationally, including translation into German and Indonesian.
  • A great example of how a business can use one of these strategies
    • “Make a noise in the east, attack in the west” eg, if you are selling expensive real estate, you can focus on all the benefits, so the price becomes irrelevant.
    • “Move from guest to host” - if you are the host, people don’t question what you do; they trust you.  How do you move into the position of the host in your business?
  • Her life-changing question:
Am I doing what I want to do?  It is important to follow intuition more than overthinking things.  Making decisions from intuition can create flexibility, and this is what led Leonie to travel, speak a new language and create successful businesses and a series of books.
  • How removing herself from her own environment allowed her to reflect on her environment and her life - and how that reflection helps Leonie learn new things to share with others.

In today's episode, Kevin Bees interviews Alyson Van Hooser.

Alyson Van Hooser is not your typical business speaker.
Alyson brings a fresh, relevant perspective to the new challenges that leaders face today, teaching her audiences how to engage, motivate, and retain a multi-generational workforce. The bonus is that along with her expertise, Alyson makes a one-of-a-kind connection with the audience that never fails to delight and inspire.

With a life resume that includes tough early years that taught her how to turn challenges into opportunities, Alyson achieved rapid success working her way up in the food, retail, and finance industries.

She was a City Councilwoman by the age of 30; she works with a wide range of organizations as a keynote speaker, and, as if that weren’t enough, Alyson tops it off by being a mother of four.

Alyson’s unique life and business experiences led her to discover the immense power that comes when leaders own the responsibility of truly understanding and intentionally connecting with the people they serve.

Her books LEVEL UP, ACCELERATE YOUR SUCCESS, and soon-to-be-released INFINITE INFLUENCE, unveil powerful stories of lessons learned through struggles, and provide practical strategies needed to create and sustain success in life and at work.

As a speaker, Alyson Van Hooser is the real deal, and her heartfelt connection with people is a key to her effectiveness on stage. Her distinctive combination of wisdom, energy, humor, and practical strategies inspire and motivate audiences to take action on ideas that drive both organizational and personal success.

In today’s episode Alyson shares:

  • How her life changed at aged 13, when she came home one day and her parents were not there, and never came back (her father struggled with drugs, and her mother left before Alyson can remember).
  • How she was prompted at the aged 16 by her future father-in-law to share her experiences to help others, and she ignored his suggestions because she could just not imagine that she could help in that way.
  • How she was the youngest person ever to represent her community as a city councilwoman.
  • Why she was torn when someone proposed to her to become Mayor of the city, there was a tough choice between remaining a professional in her career or going all in on politics.
  • Her father-in-law Phil reminded her that he thought she should do neither of those and instead, should share her experiences for the benefit of others through writing a book and helping leaders develop.
  • How she became a keynote speaker in 2019.
  • Her life-changing question is - ‘What do I want?’.  Alyson wanted something different than the experience her parents were creating, so she defined that clearly, and over the years has been able to move towards that and bring the vision into reality.  Alyson chose to pursue a life that is radically different and started figuring out what others were doing and working out who to emulate and who not to emulate.
  • Her second life-changing question from her book ‘Infinite Influence’. “What do they need from me?”.  This is so important because there is no self-made success; you have to build relationships and connect with people.
  • The two questions tie together since if Alyson can help them unlock what they want, it makes it more likely she will be able to receive what she wants.
  • Why it is important for business owners to know EXACTLY what their team needs from them (if they want to get the best out of them).
  • This question is important personally, professionally, and in the community.
  • Her future-proof leadership strategy: Stories not statistics.  If you can get to know someone’s story, you will uncover their need, and when you understand the need you can serve that need.  This is more important than ever since leadership is more difficult than ever and people are more diverse than ever.  You must understand the people that report to you.
  • The importance of empathy and why most people are getting empathy wrong, and what to do about it.
  • How to begin to think like someone else, so you can lead them on how they would like to be led, not on the way you want to lead them.
  • Stories build a bond - so it is important for a leader to seek out people's stories. There are 3 stories every leader needs to know about their team members

1. Key events: what was happening in the world when you were coming of age?

2. Parenting: 80% of what we do as adults came from the way we were parented.  Older generations were left alone more and had to figure things out, and the younger generations almost never will be left alone.  Therefore, this translates into expectations at work, the older generation expects to figure things out and the younger generations will expect more to be given support.

3. Technology - what has been the team members' experience with technology?  The older generation may prefer more face-to-face, and the younger is more connected to online approaches.

4. To find someone's story, you can share “It was like this for me… what was it like for you?”  Leaders should share their stories first.

·         “How people think about your changes how they see you” - and it matters what people think about you because what they think about your changes how they treat you.

  • Therefore, it is critical that you establish with people how you want them to see you, so you can get treated the way you want to be treated.
  • To control how people think of you and treat you, it is critical to be intentional about sharing your story.
  • YOU have a story to share, and it will make difference to those who need to hear it.

And much much more.

Today, Kevin Bees takes with Jenna Harrison.

Jenna Harrison is a top-ranked business coach and reformed over-analyzer turned Queen of Clarity. Before becoming a serial entrepreneur she oversaw brand communication and copy for over 33 brands at a top fashion company. When not wearing her coach hat, you’ll find her satisfying her wanderlust, playing tug of war with her puppy or chasing after her 5-year-old son.

  • How she was stuck in a career she did not like, and how she figured out a way to work out what she wanted to do.
  • Using what she knew, she started helping her husband's colleagues in the military, because she started getting great results, she expanded to help others, professionally.
  • Why you don’t need to wait and connect the dots in hindsight, instead you can switch the lens and you can refocus and things will be illuminated now.
  • Why clarity and decision-making become much easier when you are clear on purpose and mission.   When you are clear you can ask: ‘Which choice better fulfils this mission?’
  • Most business owners get stuck in 3 ways: knowing themselves, their people, and how those two connect.
  • Jenna’s business is “The Uncommon Way” - because it is not that common that business owners to find their purpose and get clarity at the start of their journey.
  • Human Design - what your DNA encoded into us at birth, and what gifts and shadows we have, and how best to interact in the world.
  • How money follows alignment if you are willing to receive.
  • Life-Changing Question:  If you are saying - I don’t know, ask “What do I know?”  Stretch your brain, and get it used to default to ‘what do I know.’
  • Say to yourself “You know the answer” and the answer will come.
  • Changing belief:

  - Question everything… what is a story and what is fact?

  1. Gather evidence to support the new belief you want to embed.
  2. Affirmations - these can work effectively IF you identify supporting evidence that helps you believe it in the moment.
  • Habits and rituals that have enabled her to be a serial entrepreneur include Meditation, Setting intentions before sleeping (gratitude/receiving), setting clear goals, and evaluating progress.
  • And why it is important to tell yourself  “maybe I know more than I realize”, be compassionate with yourself, and tell your brain you are safe to take the next steps

In this episode, Kevin Bees interviews world-class employability & engagement expert Paul ter Wal.

Paul ter Wal is International Engagement Explorer, employability expert, and workplace architect. For more than 25 years he has been in the speaking, consulting, and training business for executives, Human Beings directors, and employees.

Happiness Makes Money.
According to the Gallup Engagement Index, a staggering 87% of employees worldwide are not engaged at work. The world has a crisis of engagement, with serious and potentially long-lasting repercussions for organizations.

This is where Paul ter Wal steps in. The former lawyer works on both sides – employer and employees – to create work happiness and loyalty. His concept is based on finding the “Non-Negotiables” and the core values of the individual as well as the company. Because a highly engaged workforce means the difference between a company that thrives and one that struggles.   When employees are engaged, they are passionate, creative, and entrepreneurial, and their enthusiasm fuels growth. These employees are emotionally connected to the mission and purpose of their work.

In this episode Paul ter Wal shares:

  •  87% of employees worldwide are NOT engaged at work
  • When you have engaged people, they get more energy from their work than they put into it, which makes it easy to go the extra mile.
  • Employees, especially Gen -Y & Z want to find purpose and have roles with meaning and live by their core values.
  • 7 Keys to profitability - profit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders
  • Engaged team members see productivity increases of 20% and sick leave reduced by 40%.  This is especially important in countries like The Netherlands since employers have a liability to pay employees for up to 2 years of sick leave.
  • Happy employees create better customer experiences
  • How, counter-intuitively, giving them members time to rest, nap, walk, etc makes them around 25% more productive.
  • Leaders' role is NOT to be above the team and tell them what to do, but instead to stand beside them and FACILITATE their teams' success by asking them "How can I support you to fulfill their work?".
  • Words matter... your team is NOT 'human resources' - that communicates that they are a commodity/replaceable.
  • 3 factors for an engaged workforce:  Autonomy, Belonging, and Competence.
  • Autonomy - Ask team members 'How can we improve the outcome?' and take action on their suggestions.
  • Your team are not employees, they are professionals.  Treat them that way and see how their performance improves
  • The life-changing question he discovered on his 800km walk of the Camino: "Are you really performing the way you want to perform?".

If not, what do you need to perform better in your life?

  • Why you should list your core values on your website, and why you should hire first on core values NOT capability.
  • Research shows that the idea of success leading to happiness is not true, and instead, if you prioritise happiness first, you are more likely to create success.
  • How success without happiness is the ultimate failure
  • and much more...
